Church Groups

Adults Groups

Highland Park United Methodist Church provides many opportunities for adults to interact and socialize with other members. Here are a few examples:

Dinner Groups: These groups meet at different restaurants on the first Friday of each month from September to May. The groups are represented by different combinations of people each month. Join us for an evening of fun, fellowship and good food.

Quilters Group: The quilters love to quilt and meet one day a week for fellowship, fun, and quilting.

Cross-Stitch Group: Come join our counted cross-stitch group! “We bring our own projects. If you need help with a project challenge, someone can assist you.” We have fun and enjoy great fellowship with other stitchers. We meet Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Music

Adults and youth are welcome to sing in the Wesley Choir, which helps lead worship from September through May.  You don't have to be a professional musician or even be able to read music to join in.  We want to make a joyful noise to and for the Lord.  The choir sings a variety of music and is very enthusiastic.  Try us out.  We would like to have you sing with us!  Shane Galentine is our organist and choir director.

Adults and youth are also invited to get involved with our bell choir.  This choir usually plays once a month in our 10:00 Sunday morning worship service from September through May.  Practices are on Thursday nights in the sanctuary at 6:30 pm.  Reading music is a requirement for this choir.  It's a fun group that does a great job playing a wide variety of music.  Jeannette Filippi has been our bell choir director for over 30 years, but her experience doesn't mean she is stuck in place.  The choir plays some new music every year and is always a favorite of the congregation.

Throughout the year we welcome people of all ages to share their musical gifts with us at any of our worship experiences.  Instrumentalists, soloists, and groups are all welcome to add to the joy of any service.  Contact the church office or Shane Galentine at 785-266-6555 if you would like more information or to offer your talents to God in one of our services.

Church Library Committee

Our church library is maintained by a group of volunteers who work throughout the year to make it an enjoyable and informative place to be. The group is called the Library Committee.

We meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. We work during the morning and usually go to lunch together.

Each member of the committee usually serves longer than a typical three-year term since there is much to learn about helping in the library.

One of our members is designated to be Librarian of the Month, whose duties are to check books in, reshelve them and keep the library in order.

We would WELCOME any new person who would like to serve on this committee.
