United Methodist Men

The organization of Highland Park United Methodist Men provides an opportunity for men to serve the church and community in a number of ways. They sponsor two annual community events which have become well known Topeka traditions:

  • Fall Barbecue:  This 50 year-old annual event provides an evening of homemade food and barbeque. The event is usually held outside and music entertainment is provided.
  • Pancake Day:  This popular event is a 60-year tradition, usually held in the winter. Pancakes and the trimmings are available all day.

Funding raised from these events is used for church mission projects, vacation bible school, youth mission and camps, church maintenance, and other local charities and needs.

The men sponsor a spring Lenten breakfast speaker program. In addition, there are other service projects, special programs, and studies available to men. On United Methodist Day, the men sponsor a trip to see the Kansas City Royals play.

The Highland Park United Methodist Men also join forces with other Methodist churches, hosting and attending "Wider Area Mens' Meetings" in the fall and spring and attending spiritual rallies each summer. The men participate in the Kansas East Conference potato drops and help repackage potatoes for distribution by local food banks and charity groups.
